An early corrective measure steered Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-nooh to a historic triumph in the SangSom 6-red World Championship and the biggest payday of his life as he dominated China’s Liang Wenbo 8-2 in the final yesterday. 

Thepchaiya became the first Thai or Asian to lift the trophy which had until yesterday been the domain of British players. 

He was rewarded with a hefty purse of 2.5 million baht while Liang received one million baht for finishing runner-up. 

A jubilant Thepchaiya punched the air at the end of the 10th frame and later declared his triumph to be the “most important achievement of my 17-year playing career”
