Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) secretary-general Kamol Rodklai on Friday congratulated Thai medal and prize winners for their performance at two international mathematics competitions held in China. 

The events are the International Mathematics Competition 2015 (IMC 2015) in Jilin and the Southeast Mathematics Olympiad 2015 (SMO 2015) being held in Fujian. 

He said Obec selected 44 outstanding students from primary and secondary schools across the country to compete in the competitions. For IMC 2015, 16 individuals and four teams received awards at primary level, and 13 individuals and eight teams won at secondary level. 

The prizes in the individual category were five gold, eight silver, seven bronze medals, and nine consolation prizes. 

In the team category, the Thai students won two gold, five silver and six bronze medals. 

A total of 627 students from 29 countries took part in IMC 2015.
