The Ministry of Culture has joined hands with the Foreign Affairs Ministry to host the inaugural “Thai Film Festival” in London this week.
According to the Ministry Permanent Secretary Apinan Poshyananda, the aim is to promote Thai culture through films in England as part of a celebration to mark the auspicious occasion of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s fifth cycle birthday.
Seven movies to be screened are the doomed love story Phlae Kao (The Scar); Poo Somboon (Somboon), a drama about the life of grandpa Somboon who takes care of his sick wife; The Story Of Mahajanaka, an animation based on the book of the same title written by HM the King; action film Tom Yum Goong2; horror movie Game Pluk Phi (Ghost Coins); romantic comedy Kid Tueng Wittaya (Teacher’s Diary) and the multi award-winning drama Phawang Rak (Concrete Clouds).
The “Thai Film Festival” will be held at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in London from Thursday to Saturday.
The festival is the second cultural event after the ministry organized a khon masked dance at the Royal Albert Hall in London last Thursday. The ministry also plans to launch a cultural event called “Thailand Eye” to exhibit Thai contemporary art at The Saatchi Gallery in London at the end of the year.
