To mark the beginning of Buddhist Lent, Ubon Ratchatani Province will organize the Candle Procession on 8-9 July 2017. The Buddhist Lent is aimed to allow the Buddhist monks to make a retreat at the temple grounds and dedicate their time to study, mediation and prayer during the rainy season.

Originally, a bundle of small candles was presented to the monks along with other basic essentials to use during this period. Overtime, people started to carve the candle into beautiful shape. The Candle Competition was also held to find out the most beautiful candle. The spectacular candle procession along with the elegant performing of the dance troupe will parade on city streets on floats.
