Thailand’s engineering student team from Kasetsart University in the name of “Skuba-Jr.” competed in the World RoboCup 2019 in Sydney, Australia during 2-8 July 2019. The Skuba-Jr. participated in the @Home League on open category, which requires the designated robots to compete in the degree to which their robots can perform operations that assist human life in domestic environments such as living room and kitchen, using an everyday robot utilization scenario. Important technologies in the competition include robot arm control and manipulation, such as opening and closing doors and holding objects, the robot’s ability to track a human being and the establishment of naturalistic robot-human communication, and the robot’s sensors for voice interaction and image recognition technologies. On the last test, the final challenge, the Skuba-Jr. opted to compete as “hotel employee,” which it can serve customers, as well as to help customers escape from fire incident occurred at the hotel. The Skuba-Jr. won the first prize in the @Home League and the “Overall Highest Score” award in the competition.
